Private Full Day Koh Ker Temple
Visit remote Koh Ker, Jayavarman IV's early Angkorian capital
The capital of Jayavarman IV enjoys a remote location about 100 km to the north-east of the earliest Angkor settlement at Roluos. The city served as the centre of empire for a brief period between approximately 928 and 944. Despite this brevity the builders had been busy and the complex features many 'prasat' or towers built around a huge central 'baray' or reservoir. The most imposing of the remains is the Prasat Thom complex, featuring a 30 metre tall seven tiered pyramid structure. Much statuary from Koh Ker now resides in Phnom Penh's National Museum but what remains illustrates the Koh Ker style, enormity in size and showing dynamic movement - rare in other Angkor styles. Perhaps this presentation of power is a contributory factor to the theory that Jayavarman IV could have been a usurper, and Koh Ker a rival to Angkor. A picnic lunch is provided.
Cost per person AED 525.00
